About WE People 

Much of the Water’s Edge Church congregation enjoys the peace and serenity of country and lake living. Many enjoy the flexibility of being a small business owner or working from home, others commute to work, most often within 30 to 40 minutes of their home, while some are retired. The body of believers engaged at WE Church is faithful, invested, authentic, and mission-minded, being here for those not here yet...not only in Henning, but in Otter Tail County and beyond.

Minnesota’s four seasons boast incredible outdoor opportunities throughout the year, including boating, fishing, lake life, golfing, hunting, and snowmobiling. Henning, MN is located in west-central Minnesota in an area of wooded hills, pristine lakes, rivers and streams, perfect for having all of those experiences at your fingertips. Henning is known as the Gateway to the Lakes as Otter Tail County is home to over 1,000 lakes, the most of any county in the United States. The Otter Tail County area is well known for its rural allure with charming main streets and innumerable dining options. Henning and Otter Tail County is a place to fill up on fresh air and make priceless memories – to live and work in the area others escape to for relaxation and vacation.

Living in the heart of Otter Tail County puts you in the center of a job market that offers opportunities to access potential employers in ALL directions. A 30 to 45 minute drive will get you to four different county government hubs, 10+ school districts, countless long-standing manufacturing companies, five separate hospital and clinic systems, as well as a plethora of small businesses in a variety of industries.

Henning, Ottertail and Battle Lake are full of small business owners, farmers, and entrepreneurs as well. Each community has incentives for qualified businesses. Whether one would like to open a unique shop, set up a manufacturing facility or start a home-based business; there is help to get there. Each community is adjacent to a State Highway and each City has additional infrastructure capable of handling business needs. First National Bank is locally owned and operated, has a branch in all three communities, and is very willing to help someone with a good business plan.

The Henning school district is a small independent school district that serves a student population of around 400, consisting of Kindergarten through Grade 12. The district provides a quality program that is rich in technology and provides a comprehensive curriculum in Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Speech, Spanish, Music, Business Education, Art and Industrial Technology. In addition, students are offered college level courses in English, Speech, Algebra, Computer and Accounting.

Just 16 miles from Henning, Battle Lake School has been recognized at the state and national level for exemplary education. Battle Lake School has a recently remodeled science wing while each student, 2nd through 12th grade, is issued a Chromebook for enhanced learning experiences. Classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards and interactive panel technology, a CNC milling machine, an iPad lab, and is one of the first schools in the region to have multiple 3-D printers dedicated to student learning.

Henning and Battle Lake Schools, while independent districts, co-op in several extracurricular activities, including Cross Country, Football, Wrestling, Softball, Track and Field, Baseball, and Golf.

Surrounding communities are uniquely placed in the corner of several school districts with active bus routes, offering viable options for families to engage in a school district that best fits the needs of their children.

Healthcare and lifestyle

While Henning is away from the bustle of the city, access to larger cities is within easy driving distance for shopping or other amenities desired. Whether it be small town theaters, art shows, excellent dining, or convenient retail options, you can find what you are looking for in under an hour in numerous directions.

Albeit rural, Henning has a wide range of healthcare services, including a medical, physical therapy, and chiropractic clinic, optometrist, eye care center, dentist and pharmacy. For more specialized healthcare needs, there are five hospital and clinic systems within a 30 to 45 minute drive. In addition, within 100 miles and accessed quickly via ground or air ambulance, there are three Level I or II Trauma Centers to offer expert medical care in the midst of need.
